The brief

Afterpay sought to create a compelling video series that would distinguish it from other BNPL competitors by showcasing the stories of its merchants. The primary objective was to highlight the unique journeys and challenges of 12 merchants across three territories—Australia, the UK, and the US. The series aimed to build a sense of community among Afterpay merchants globally, focusing on authenticity and relatability.

How we approached the vide

Our response was shaped by the need for authenticity and the power of storytelling. We proposed a multi-faceted approach to deliver a suite of premium digital assets, including retailer journey videos, testimonial videos, product videos, and an anthem video featuring multiple merchants. We shot and produced the series across three continents and timezones, with remote client video feeds to Australia to ensure alignment with client objectives during overseas shoots.

The retailer journey videos offered intimate portraits of Afterpay’s merchants, focusing on their individual stories, brand, and business journey. Testimonial videos centred on merchants’ experiences with Afterpay, emphasising how the platform helped them grow their businesses. Product videos served as a ‘tips & tricks’ segment, where merchants demonstrated specific Afterpay features and shared how these tools helped their businesses. The anthem video united the diverse stories of Afterpay merchants, showcasing the shared small business dream despite varying industries, locations, and backgrounds.
