The brief

Manscaped sought to create a series of humorous and memorable TV commercials and social video ads featuring AFL superstar Max Gawn. The campaign’s primary objective was to promote the Lawn Mower 5.0 trimmer and Beard Hedger Pro Kit in the Australian market, aligning with Manscaped’s innovative and leadership positioning in groin grooming and beard trimming. Manscaped emphasised the need for ads that were funny and engaging without being too crude, and provided a range of key reasons to believe in their products, from upgraded SkinSafe™ blades to waterproof designs.

How we approached the vide

To address the brief, we conceptualised a campaign centred around Max Gawn’s regal presence, positioning him as the “king” of grooming in a series of royal-themed bathroom scenarios. Director Ben Mathews, known for his expertise in comedy and dialogue direction, was selected to helm the project. The campaign’s tagline, “For a beard worthy of a grand final,” guided the narrative, emphasising the premium quality and innovative features of Manscaped’s products.

One of the critical aspects of this project was the need to create multiple video assets from a single 8-hour shoot with Max Gawn. To achieve this, we meticulously planned the shoot, ensuring that all necessary footage for both the Lawn Mower 5.0 and Beard Hedger Pro Kit commercials were captured efficiently. This approach maximised the output while minimising production costs.
